Rules of Orm Overland Prize

Orm Øverland Prize 2009

To honour the work of Professor Orm Øverland, one of the most significant Nordic scholars of American Studies, the Nordic Association for American Studies has created the Orm Øverland Prize (EUR 200) to be awarded to the best graduate student paper to be presented at the 2009 NAAS conference in Copenhagen. In addition to the Prize, the paper will be considered for publication in the NAAS Journal American Studies in Scandinavia.

The winner will be announced at the NAAS Conference. Although modest in amount, it is hoped that this award will encourage Nordic graduate students to attend the conference. All graduate students at Nordic Universities who are members of one of the national associations and who wish to have their contributions considered for the Orm Øverland Prize should submit a copy of their paper electronically (please check rules of submission) to the President of the Association by 15 May 2009 (email: jopi.nyman@joensuu.fi). The NAAS Board will select the recipient of the prize in connection with its biannual conference on the basis of submissions.

Rules of submission:
1. Author must be a current graduate student (MA or PhD) at a Nordic University.
2. The paper must have been accepted for presentation at the NAAS Conference in Copenhagen.
3. The paper must have been produced between 1 September 2008 and 15 May 2009.
4. The paper must not exceed 7,500 words (exceeding bibliography).
5. The paper must not have been submitted for publication.
6. The paper (double spaced, standard font) must be submitted electronically as an attachment to the President.
7. The paper is expected to follow the format of either the student’s own academic discipline or the stylesheet of American Studies in Scandinavia.
